Most rescues typically hold 1-2 adoption events per month depending on their size and volunteer base. Your adoption coordinator will let you know when these events are happening and will confirm whether or not your foster dog is able to attend.
SOME CRITERIA FOR ADULTS
IF YOU'RE FOSTERING A PUPPY
Your specific rescue will let you know about their protocols, but the above are common things that most shelters follow. If you have any questions about how adoption fairs work, be sure to contact your Adoption Coordinator!
SOME CRITERIA FOR ADULTS
- They've been in care for at least 1 week (just to make sure they don't have any health issues!)
- Have minimum one vaccination plus rabies
- Generally be in good health (no sniffles, etc)
- Adult males need to be neutered and females must not be in heat
- They have the right disposition for a fair. If your foster is nervous in crowds or dislikes new situations, an adoption event might not be the best place to show them off
- Adults are normally kept on leash and are handled by either you (the foster) or a volunteer
IF YOU'RE FOSTERING A PUPPY
- Have minimum two Parvo/Distemper shots and must be a minimum of one week between the last shot and the event
- Generally be in good health (no sniffles, eye gunkies, coughing, etc)
- Puppies are often put into an x-pen so they can interact with other puppies and be contained in one area. This is also smart because most puppies aren't leash trained and shouldn't be wandering all over the place anyway!
