Adoption Process
Each rescue or shelter will have their own procedure when it comes to the adoption process, and it will be included in your new foster package. Normally a rescue has the following steps in adoption:
If it all goes well the family often will leave with their new dog that evening, leaving the adoption contract and payment with you. It is your responsibility to ensure that those documents/payment get to the rescue ASAP. If they do decide to adopt your foster make sure to let the Adoptions Coordinator know right away so that they can remove the dog from the website, send out their vetting papers and congratulate the new owners!
- Interested adopters see a dog on the website/Facebook and contact the Adoptions Coordinator from the rescue for more information
- Adopters fill out an application for the dog either on paper or online and speak to the Adoptions Coordinator to ensure that the dog would be a good fit for their family
- References are called by volunteers from the rescue (usually a minimum of two)
- Adoption Coordinator puts the adopter in contact with the foster home (that's you!) and you set up a time for the meet and greet
