"Pimping Out" Your Pup
One of the best parts about being a foster parent to a dog is that you are instrumental in helping that pup get adopted! There is no better feeling than knowing that you helped to find your foster his perfect forever home. Below are some ways you can help your dog to get more positive exposure and help get the word out that they are looking for a home.
1. Take pictures and send them to the rescue you are fostering for. Most rescues use a variety of Social Media platforms to promote their adoptables such as Facebook, PetFinder, Kijiji, Twitter, Pinterest and personal websites. The sooner you get your foster's picture to them, the sooner they will be up on the site for potential adopters to view. If possible try to take pictures using a regular digital camera instead of your cell phone to ensure that the photo is a high enough quality to be resized and blown up.
2. Spread the word to family and friends! They may not be looking for a dog, but might know someone who is. Be sure to post pictures and a link to the rescue on your personal social media pages (Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, etc).
3. If your old is old enough and has all their shots, take them out around town! Not only will this help your foster become better socialized it will give them exposure. Bring them to the dog park, out for walks, to the Farmer's Market or just out to pet stores. If your rescue has "Adopt Me" gear for pets see if you can grab that and if not a bandanna is quite easy to make.
4. Attend adoption events! If your rescue is having an event and asks if you would like to attend be sure to take advantage. Rescues typically have adoptions events every few months and they are great ways to get your pet out there.
5. Take videos of your foster. Sometimes a dog may not photograph well, and since we don't live in the wizarding world of Harry Potter our pictures can't come alive to tell a story! Video is a great way to show off your foster's personality and any tricks they might know. You can show how well they walk on leash, how they play with other dogs or their mad ball catching skills.
